Bangladesh: Hindu youth sentenced to 5 years in jail for ‘blasphemy’, 

A Hindu youth in Bangladesh has been sentenced to 5 years in jail by a court for alleged blasphemy. Paritosh Sarkar, accused of making blasphemous comments on Facebook, has also been fined 30,000 Taka by the Rangpur Cyber Tribunal. Sarkar was convicted under Digital Security Act by judge Abdul Majid Roy of the tribunal on Wednesday.

On Thursday (January 26) night, a group of 9-10 Islamists disrupted the Saraswati Puja and vandalised the idol of the Goddess after being told not to click pictures and videos.

Earlier this month, the Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance informed that a total of 154 religious minorities, including Hindus, were killed in the country between January and December 2022.

The annual report of atrocities on minorities in Bangladesh said that about 319 families and temples were looted while 173 businesses were vandalised in 2022.
The voices of atrocities against the religious minorities, especially Hindus in Bangladesh are being heard loud in Dhaka. In a latest testament to that over 154 religious minorities, including Hindus, were killed in the country in 2022.
