The Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met) in New York, which has faced intense criticism and legal scrutiny over some of its listed treasures, including at least 77 Indian artworks connected to imprisoned smuggler Subhash Kapoor, has announced that 16 of those items have been repatriated to India. In the wee hours of Monday, February 6, unknown miscreants broke into a Hanuman temple in Narapat Pur village, Chairaigaon Block, Varanasi district, Uttar Pradesh, and vandalised the Lord Hanuman idol. A Shivling, Trishul, and a Nandi idol were also found to be uprooted and desecrated. The donation box was also broken and looted.
